Passive Philanthropy
The MACURH 2010 team at Missouri State University would once again encourage delegations to bring pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. To prevent schools from having to bring the pop tabs with them to the conference, we would allow them to take a picture of the delegation and their donation and have it verified by a Ronald McDonald House staff member to ensure the accuracy. Each delegation would receive spirit points for participating, and the top three collectors for large and small schools would receive extra bear bucks. For example, the university that donated the most pop tabs will receive $20 in Bear Bucks. Next, the university who donated the second largest amount of pop tabs would receive $15 in Bear Bucks. Finally, the delegation that brought the third most amount of pop tabs would receive $10 in Bear Bucks towards their total spirit points for the conference.
Active Philanthropy
When picking an active philanthropy, the bid team explored ways of benefiting the local area and the entire region or nation. As St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has a local and national organization, it was the best fit. St. Jude's Research Hospital is based in Memphis, Tennessee. The mission statement of St. Jude reads:
The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
Specifically, the money each university raises will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as well as St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Projects will be held at Missouri State University during MACURH 2010 in order to give the conference participants the opportunity to help the children in the Springfield community as well as in the nation.
Cards for Kids - will allow delegates to write a card to a child of St. John's Hospital. Missouri State University will supply the paper, markers, stickers, glue, envelopes, and other supplies to send these cards to children in St. John's Hospital.
You're A Star - will allow delegates to come and support the community more by actively donating money to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The stars would be posted throughout the Clarion Hotel during the conference to display the great effort of every participant of MACURH 2010 to help save children's lives.
